I'm sure a lot of you have heard about the shooting in Aurora, CO this morning at the opening of the new Batman movie. After listening to the news I couldn't sit still any longer and had to say something. I don't tweet or text so I sent the following email to the news stations. Please read it and let me know if you agree. Thanks.

I have been listening to the reports on the Aurora shooting this morning and felt the need to share my thoughts. First, my heart goes out to all those affected by this awful event. The victims are in my prayers. Second, I’m not sure why the news teams on all the channels keep saying that they are wondering why or what motivated this person to do this awful act of violence.
After reading about this new Batman movie and the villains that are in it, my husband and I decided not to see the movie - mainly because of all the violence in the movie. It seems rather logical that the suspect was acting out the villain, Bane, from the movie. From what I read about the movie and the character, he dressed like him and was acting like him.
Comic-con is a big thing right now and people that are attracted to this, most likely live part of their life in a fictitious world. These are fictional characters that they act out. So, why not the person that shot all of the people in the theater. Think about it. He was wearing an outfit that included a gas mask, used gas bombs, and guns. He was also very theatrical with the timing of the movie. The previous Batman movie with the Joker was very dark and violent also, but this one is much worse.
Ok, so I have a couple of rhetorical questions – why are parents taking a 3 month old and children under 16 to this movie, especially at midnight? What are they thinking or not thinking? Isn't there is a reason the movie is rated PG13 (extreme violence and graphics)? I personally think the movie should be rated R. Also, why are these kinds of violent movies being produced, especially today, with all the horrible, or as the news puts it horrific violence in the world.
Today, many people are struggling in these hard times and dealing with desperate situations. Because of their circumstances some people are on the edge and just loosing it. Why aggravate these situations. We need more uplifting and positive movies, things that will give people hope and positive inspiration.
Please think about this - it really makes a lot of sense.
